Snails, hermaphrodites, practice a love court from two to twelve hours before mating. They inseminate each other to fertilize their eggs. From the beginning of the mating, each drives a lime dart into the flesh of his congener. Each litter can hold up to one hundred eggs. Snails have a spermatheca. When a new litter reach, they are fertilized by a mixture of spermatozoa from different individuals. This promotes genetic mixing. Snails can lay eggs up to once a month.
