How are the new and the creative born? From an epiphany, perhaps. From a knowledge of what has already been done, always. Novelty necessarily appears as a proposal to what already exists. How many times has contemporary art and design been criticised for being too far removed from reality? Are they really real? Could it not be that our eyes are only jostled by what we are not used to?
Every museum object was in its time the contemporary creation of an era, however remote it may be. Each of them thus forms the link in a long chain of transmission built by assimilation and opposition over several centuries. In my opinion, this dimension is fundamental in understanding the creations presented at Galerie MICA.
This is why, starting this year, I will present, by touch and according to the echo they arouse, antique objects, antiques or curiosities. My past as an antique dealer has always been influenced by my preference for design linked to the skills of craftsmanship. In 2021, Galerie MICA will be committed to anchoring contemporary creation in the history to which it belongs, an uninterrupted history of artistic, technical and cultural transmission and crossroads.
