Oscillating between nature and culture, the mask modifies the morphology of the wearer. It is the last barrier before what allows man to be present in the world: his eyes to see, his ears to hear, his nose to smell and his mouth to taste and express himself. The mask, liminal by definition, adopts forms that are both aggressive and reassuring. It disturbs the paradox of always being double.
This object is undoubtedly the only one capable of materialising our doubts, the only one capable of containing two possibilities, two faces. The mask always responds with ambiguity. That's the whole point of our object. The roof of a reassuring fireplace opens the eyes, mirror of the soul if there is one. And the intimate to defend themselves. The dark, striated protection adopts the aggressive profile of samurai armour and commits to prudence. At the same time invitation and warning, the object asks about the answers possible in the face of a deteriorated environment. In these Soft fictions, Matali Crasset's signature, this mask has become a common feature of today's urgent concern. Entirely biodegradable and devoid of endocrine disruptors, the material of which it is composed (Istroflex) is a solution adapted to a rebalancing of the human presence in the world. A harmony from these parallel worlds that the designer set out to imagine in order to reread the delicate mask, once again regarded as the disturbing object of everyday life that it has always been.
