The Plom letterbox is a work of art that plays on balance.
Studio Briand & Berthereau collaborated with metalworker Crézé to create and design Plom. The hundred-year-old company, based near Rennes, has been awarded the EPV - Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant - label by the French government. Crézé produces works of excellence in the restoration and embellishment of French heritage.
Made from 5 MM aluminum sheet, the Plom mailbox was a design challenge for Crézé. The compass and rod that make up Plom's opening process is a precision mechanism. The column supporting the box was grooved before being bent into a dodecagon to make the angles sharp. This three-part faceted column stands on an axis like a "Kokei" performance.
The oven paint finish emphasizes the play of light on the faces of the volumes. With its intriguing off-axis silhouette, Plom plays on both architectural and design code.
